Air Central installers receive extensive training in the installation and care of your equipment. If your air conditioner and furnace are more than 12 years old, you might consider replacing them with more energy efficient models. New systems can save up to 50% in energy costs and save replace your old system. Air Conditioners run on the same basic principle as your refrigerator. You will find a compressor, expansion valve, a coil, a couple of fans and a control unit. Cool Freon is compressed causing it to become hot gas which is run through coils. The coils and a fan help dissipate the heat condensing the Freon into a liquid. The Freon liquid is run through an expansion valve evaporating the Freon turning it into a cold gas. The cold gas is run through another set of coils allowing it to absorb heat and another fan cools down your house. A BTU is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water one degree Fahrenheit. One ton equals 12,000 BTU. The energy efficiency rating (SEER) of an air conditioner is its BTU rating over its wattage. If a 13,000 BTU air conditioner consumes 1,200 watts, its SEER is 10.8 (13,000 BTU/1,200 watts). The higher the SEER rating the more the efficiency of the air conditioning unit which will be reflected by a higher price. Air Central Inc. can size a variety of air conditioners to meet your specific needs. |
